I don’t drive in the city if I can help it. Just getting in to my friend’s house, that last ten miles took an hour, because I foolishly chose to arrive at the wrong time of day. I won’t even try to drive in the city’s center. Metra and Uber and old-fashioned footwork does it for me. I will always be a country girl at heart–trees and stars and open spaces are in my blood–but I do love the excitement of a visit to the city.

Yet another thing we have in common, Marian. A connection to Chicago. I have made more than one friend there lately, and it’s nice to think of Chicago as a sort of familiar place.

I have one of those love-hate relationships with the city/area though. I love all it has to offer…ethnic foods, the museums, the Art Institute, the Shedd aquarium, IKEA! but I hate the crowds, the driving, the excesses and the duplication of the same chain stores over and over. You seem to see that in every city now, the chains taking over.

We were awed by the sturdy, grand architecture. How nice to have a friend with lodging when you visited. I do remember “The Bean”!

your topic, a city I love. Thank you, my dear friend.
