Yesterday and Today

Yesterday, Ivan showed me this graphic, and we both giggled for a while.

“That’s about right,” Ivan said.

Beware marrying a writer, boys!

Yesterday, Annalise and her cousin Abby tried out our new kiddie pool, it’s top ring mostly deflated due to Mama growing weary of inflating. I had the shop vac hose turned to blow instead of suck, but either I was doing something wrong, or Ivan didn’t understand the nature of a swimming pool when he said that method should blow it up super quick. Likely I was letting air leak out in the process. Regardless, they had two thirds of a pool.

Something about kids and sunshine and water makes me happy.

Yesterday, guests arrived at our house.

Today, all of Ivan’s siblings are here at Grandma’s old trailer, sorting and boxing and discussing and carrying as we prepare for a family auction to divide out Ivan’s parents’ past possessions.

I’ve never been a part of something like this. For me, the items don’t hold the layers of memories and laughter and tears they do for the long-term members of the family. But I will be interested in watching the process and hope that this can be a positive and relationship-building experience for all of us.

Talk soon.
