1.”The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”
If you consider the heavens, the multiverses of stars far-flung through vast space, the spiral arms of our galaxy only an atom in a larger unknown–what is man, that Christ came?
I read this paraphrase of John 1:14 in The Message once, and it stuck, ringing through my head now and then as something to turn sideways and upside down, to shake and examine. “The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.”
Right down the street He was. We played with him, saw his dirty face, his hand and our hands rubbing through the same dust, our tongues tasting it. We saw his face light when he giggled, saw the tear trails on his cheeks, heard his stomach rumble, heard his mother call him home.
That GOD could be man and GOD a child is astonishing.
2. “It is the nature of God to speak, to communicate his thoughts to others…self expression is inherent in the Godhead.”
When I read this thought by A.W. Tozer, I thought, “Oh, yes,” and felt an instant connection. So this is why I write, why people create art. We are created in the image of God and self expression is inherent.
Sometimes I’ve wondered if I have some evil, self-focused genius in my soul, intent on churning out more of myself–but God Himself must speak Himself. My necessity is no less natural.
Christ and Creator God are called the Word, eternally speaking.
3. Today I pack. Tomorrow I drive. Wednesday, Lord willing and if the weather is good, I fly to the bush of Deer Lake, Ontario.
I love that, flying to the bush where roads don’t reach. More, I love my friends there, the smiles and the fun and the acceptance of them. I will be in Deer Lake over Christmas–the first Christmas ever I’ll be away from my own family. I don’t think I would have done it for anyone else but Deer Lakers–but I hear they really know how to celebrate. I can’t wait to join them.
Merry Christmas everyone!
How exciting! Hope you enjoy your Christmas. And come back with lots of stories to share with us.
